Being a dance student at Dancer University has been such a joy! I’ve had the opportunity to explore Salsa, Bachata, and Tango at my own pace, choosing from various 12-weeks series (programs) that fit perfectly with my work schedule. This has given me the time to enjoy evening classes with their friendly team of dance instructors, who are always bringing new, exciting dance demos and instruction to encourage the social side of dance events within the Dancer University community. I’ve also had the pleasure of watching the Westwood location expand its classes with a wide range of dance styles, some of which I’m still eager to try, like Kizomba and Brazilian Zouk Dance, which I’m really looking forward to in a Drop-In Class. Plus, it’s nice to walk into the studio and be greeted by their upbeat, friendly staff, knowing that classes start right on time and each dance room is always ready for my happy feet to step into clean floors, bright mirrors, and that are used to encourage our dance movements. By the way, their lobby is always open for a seat and a chat with friends when I arrive 10 minutes early. Overall, I can truly say that my dance skills have improved significantly, and I feel confident sharing that since the proof is in the dancing! 🙂 If you’re interested in checking out the studio, I recommend signing up for their free Saturday introductory classes and meeting Nicole Gil, the owner and dance instructor. They put on the best salsa/bachata events in the LA, and yes sometimes even the OC, area. Always amazing, often breathtaking, venues with plenty of friendly, happy skillful dancers. If you're ever like me with some remaining weekend enthusiasm left to burn, Monday nights at the Continental Club in downtown LA are always a good bet, even when driving from Orange County. The neighborhood appears safe and clean, and the venue is somewhat "underground" (literally), accessed from a wide well-lit alley. The entry is a short maze with all black painted walls and ceiling, then down a black stairwell and through black curtains into a dimly red-lit posh environment, with chic dancers moving to captivating, sensual bachata rhythms on a swanky dance floor.

I'm not usually one to write reviews usually but this is such a great place to learn Bachata! Joe and Michelle helped level me up to intermediate bachata by breaking down the moves really clearly and encouraging me to become part of the community and go to socials. David and Sami helped me to keep pushing myself, and now I’m starting in Nicole and Scott’s class, and they are seriously so cool! They give such great individual feedback and develop cool combos  you can take to the socials while also making sure they are teaching you the fundamentals. I've been attending socials, drop-in classes, and progressive courses at Dancer University for about 9 months now, and I can't say enough wonderful things about my experience. The community here is inclusive and welcoming – whether you're a true dance beginner like me or a veteran salsera / bachatera. Everyone is here to help each other grow, have fun, and become better dancers. After just a few short months, I've improved so much and made so many new friends – it feels more like a community than just a hobby. I've attended both salsa and bachata classes, and all my instructors have been knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. As someone who's shopped around at different dance studios and socials, I feel that Dancer University instructors are a tier above – they focus on technique over just combos, are good teachers as well as dancers, and are always improving themselves by attending workshops / seminars / festivals of their own. There's also a strong emphasis on taking care of each other on the dance floor and using proper technique to keep each other safe (esp Herman, a salsa instructor, and Joe, a bachata instructor) – something that not all dance studios prioritize. I personally would highly recommend taking a progressive course, as the 1:1 feedback has accelerated my progress as a student. Great studio with awesome instructors. I-thought I would have a favorite, but I’ve had multiple instructors there and all of them are great and have something different to offer. Their socials have been my favorite so far. The 12 week course is a great way to gain more confidence, get familiar with the basics and more! Finding a studio with the right vibe, management, and floor space is rare. I highly recommend Dancer University Westwood studio. Their facilities are exceptional, and the owners are incredibly supportive of independent teachers and the wider dance community. While I am a fan of their studios being impeccably clean and beautifully-lit, the welcoming, professional approach the owners have really make the experience a wow. Such a special place and community!! Not an exaggeration to say that taking classes here has been one of the best decisions of my young adult life. I attended this dance studio for bachata classes with Joe and Maria. It's very conveniently located and has a huge parking lot. I love dancing, and Joe and Maria are incredibly professional. They explain everything in detail and give attention to every student. They're always ready to help and guide you if something doesn't work out. The atmosphere in the classes is very positive and friendly - it feels like you're part of a big dance family The studio itself has several dance rooms. They are always clean, cozy, well-ventilated, equipped with air conditioning, and have large mirrors, which is very important for dance practice. The receptionist is also very pleasant, positive, and friendly. Cannot say enough good things about the Zero to Hero Salsa class taught by Herman and Jules. They not only provide breakdown of technical steps and musicality/styling instruction, but they also provide cultural context and social dancing etiquette insights, which are invaluable as a beginner social dancer. I recently completed a 12-week salsa course at Dancer University after a friend who knew I was interested in taking classes, told me about the great experience she had there in the past. I was a bit hesitant to join as I felt the full series was a big commitment. Quickly after I joined, I ended up looking forward to being in class every week. Now I couldn't be happier that I went for it, and thankful for my friend suggesting it! Jasmine was the main instructor. She guided us with such passion and expertise, occasionally supported by Nicole. Together, they created an environment where I felt encouraged and challenged at all times. You can really see not only how much knowledge and skill they have, but also how much love they pour into what they do. This course has done wonders for my confidence on the dance floor. When I first started, I was nervous about dancing at socials (and clueless on how to do so), but by the end of the program, I have been able to dance through full songs without fear and very little hesitation. There's so much to learn still, but woah! This is a strong beginning. Plus, Dancer University provides a  2 hour space  for all students from different courses/all levels to get together and practice on the weekend. It was SO helpful to build up confidence while dancing at socials was still too intimidating. Their logistics team is great too and will help accommodate you for a different class, if anything comes up and you can't make it to your usual class. That was a huge plus! Only thing I didn't like.. was I didn't want the series to end! Which means DU will continue to see more of me.  Looking forward to it! Dancer University is by far the best studio to learn salsa and bachata in Los Angeles and possibly in all of the west coast. Classes are clearly taught and the instructors are up to date on the latest trendy moves and techniques. Nicole is one of the most ethical and kind studio owners in LA. She is always gracious and helpful when we host our events at Dancer University and her space is also my favorite spot to take my private lessons in LA as well. Dancer University always brings the top artists for weekenders including Gero and Migle, Klau and Ros, and Franklin Diaz to name a few. This is truly a fabulous dance studio.  The studio is gorgeous, embracing, open, friendly.  The whole team, from the teachers to everyone else running the studio, is truly kind, warm, caring, exceptional dancers and teachers.  It feels like a home. The whole team, from the teachers to everyone else running the studio, is truly kind, warm, caring, exceptional dancers and teachers.  It feels like a home.  The studio is also very active around LA, putting together many events, often free.  They really provide a tremendous service to the city.  This is a special studio.  Special people. What a great dance school and studio! I like how friendly the instructors are and how there are free beginners classes. I've taken some salsa and bachatta classes here a few times and really enjoyed it. They rotate dance partners but you can bring your own partner. Wish I knew about this place when going to college since it's  very close to the UCLA campus. Instruction is clear and fun. I recommend this place and the studio has many dance rooms. First time taking a beginner bachata class with Nicole Gil here at Dancer University. I absolutely loved it. She's super welcoming and patient with everyone. And she teaches in such a fun and engaged way. The community she's created here is phenomenal, and she has the top dancers to teach here. In not just bachata, but also in Salsa, Kizomba, and Tango. I don't know too much about the Tango world, but the teachers she has for Bachata, Salsa, and Kizomba, they're literally the best dancers in the SoCal area. And some of them dance and teach internationally as well. She also brings in incredible artists from other parts of the world, especially Spain for bachata since that part of the world is leading the scene. At first I started Dancer University so I didn't embarrassed myself during social events. Then I got hooked on the community feelings. Now I don't want to miss a single class because I am constantly growing as a dancer and person. I am blessed to have Nicole as my salsa teacher. Nicole has a unique gift to make everyone feel welcomed and create a safe environment. She will give you valuable feedback so you will definitely improve. Her class set the pace that is accommodating to everyone. The progressive courses review what was learned last week so you won't be overwhelmed. The more you put in the work the more you will see results. So if you want improve as a dancer and possibly grow as a person. I suggest you invest in the progressive course. Writing reviews are not an easy thing, but I will try to be as transparent as possible. I have been dancing socially for 10 years in LA, but never truly committed to a dance school due to the fact that majority of the time you don’t feel as welcome or as safe to join a dance studio. Going to socials are incredibly different than actually joining a dance school — and that is where Dancer University shines. It is the best place to learn latin dancing. First, the first time I walked into DU and Nishima, the general manager, was there to greet me with the biggest and most genuine smile. That was the moment I knew I was in the right place. I have worked in sales for a long time and the importance of having someone like Nishima be the first face a customer sees when they walk in to a new place is crucial! First impressions are one of the main reasons customers stay with you or go somewhere else. Second, the instructors are all extremely professional and respectful. They teach moves and combinations you can actually use in social events unlike other dance schools in LA that teach things that don’t translate to the dance floor and are really hard to replicate in social events. Lastly, the owners Nicole and Alayn are truly great ambassadors of the LA dance community. They make everyone feel welcome. She's also very funny , bubbly, friendly, and sweet:) She gives clear and easy-to-understand instructions. 2. Yahmani is awesome too. He gives clear and insightful instructions for the leads. He always gave me very useful and personalized feedback and advice that helped me become a better follow/dancer when I danced with him in each class. - Excellent curriculum and class structure: 1. I love that my class is taught by two instructors, which makes demonstrating easier and helps with everything else. 2. I love the course design and course materials. Students get lots of practice with fellow students in each class. Each student also gets to dance with an instructor one-on-one in each class to get personalized feedback. - Welcoming environment: 1. Very friendly and supportive classmates and instructors. I always ended up having so much fun in class at DU even on days I feel exhausted. 2. Lots of my classmates strive to improve. I love that we all want progress and help each other improve. These are some of my favorite things about Dancer University. They also have group chats, a great community, and awesome events. I have been participating in the Zero to Hero Bachata Sensual Class at Dancer University since January and I can't say enough nice things about it! With no prior dance experience, I found the environment supportive for individuals of all skill levels. I've completed three beginner series and felt my confidence and skills improve. I highly recommend taking the series more than once since the instructors try really hard to make each series different. There is so much to learn, so repetition is key! I also like that you get to dance with the instructors and get feedback, I don't believe other dance studios do this so this a huge plus. My instructors were David/Michelle and John/Sofia. AMAZING instructors, 10/10. Both partners are highly knowledgeable and explain technique in easy ways to understand. I enjoy the demo at the end of the class. Some great inspiration!! love the Bachata Zero to Hero with John and Sofia! They are amazing instructors -- professional, warm, and fun. They always start on time and never rush to finish, staying afterward with patience to answer questions. If something comes up, they responsibly arrange backup so classes are never missed. Their teamwork is excellent: they perfectly complement each other, showing both leader and follower steps at the same time, which makes learning clear and complete. Their detailed teaching builds strong basics and technique, so when you put the moves together you're amazed at how well you can dance. The atmosphere is full of positive energy and humor, so everyone feels relaxed and supportive. Dancing directly with the instructors is a privilege -- they correct kindly, stay professional, and always respect personal boundaries. They rotate partners and teach from different angles, helping students adapt naturally to any direction or partner instead of memorizing just one way. Weekly recap videos in WhatsApp with the names of moves make practice much easier. Beyond class, the school offers extra practice sessions and regular events in the city, giving even more opportunities to dance and grow. I just took their 12 week Beginner Salsa class with Herman and Jules and they were so thoughtful, patient, and fun with teaching the class to a complete beginner to dance like myself! Love this place! The owners are great dancers and teachers. Took the free Saturday Salsa and Bachata beginner lesson. You can take them as many times as you want. And you get 20% off classes if you sign up that day and you have 90 days to start class. You can also sign up for a one time unlimited weeks worth of classes for $40 so you can test them all out. Their next round of classes starts in October I believe. In the meantime they have drop in classes that you can take whenever you like! I'll definitely be back! It's very clean, bright, open, and high energy! Super cute set up. There are stairs so if stairs are tough be prepared. I would recommend Bachata with John and Sophia. They teach it on Sundays and Tuesdays. It's a 12 week program. It is for beginners as I do have some Dance, In different styles. Two hours and it's great practice. They have great energy. This is my second time doing the class. To become a good dancer, you need to get the basics down. I took a Bachata class zero to Hero on Sundays from 3 to 5 with John and Sofia I absolutely was nervous going, but they're so friendly and within the two hours you definitely learned to dance. Super fun. Say it's good for people that don't have experience as well as as people that do have experience or something for everyone on repeating the class I used to Dance Salsa about 20 years ago The class is catered to people that do have experience as well defined tune and learn some new moves. I understand the class will turn into a a 12 week Intermediate Bachata intensive so I hope they bring it back as a drop in in the fall. I have taken many different instructors in LA but Dancer U is hands down the best school for learning Bachata/Salsa in LA! If you want to learn technique the correct way, then their classes are definitely for you. The instructors give you personal feedback as you dance with them throughout the class so you have a guide on what you need to work on or improve. I took the Intermediate Bachata Progressive Course with Joe and Nicole who are amazing and friendly instructors and it was the best and most fun Bachata Series Class I have ever taken. No doubt, initially, I approached the program with some trepidation--and armed a litany of excuses: too old, classes are too late, too slow on the uptake, blah, blah, blah. Yet, despite my initial hesitation, it has been nothing short of a pleasant learning experience. Our instructors, Nicole and Julie, are incredibly kind, patient, and supportive. The value of this program is so worth it- not only do you meet to learn but you befriend your class mates and go out to Socials together that the school puts on! We are talking 2-3 socials a week AND a dance class. I love Nicole s classes. No pressure, no embarrassment, lots of fun. Nicole is a very encouraging and supportive teacher. I️ love it that she sets a routine for the class and then breaks it down in simple steps. We keep practicing the same thing over and over and that’s how we get better.
